The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted a report on the issue of Palestinian minors in the Israeli judicial system yesterday, with a majority of 47 supporters, 11 abstentions and 4 abstentions, and a report written by Liliane Maury Pasquier of Switzerland, Which condemns Israel’s policy of administrative detentions against Palestinians and accuses it of violating the rights of minors, prolonged incarceration in military installations without trial, intimidation and threats, and more. The report, which is based mainly on reports by civil society organizations and UNICEF, states that the harm to Palestinian minors in military detention facilities is “widespread, systematic and institutionalized, and called for the prevention of arrest or solitary confinement of any youth” for any reason, Israel as a democracy that respects human rights and the rule of law.
The head of the Knesset delegation to the meeting (in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry), MK Aliza Lavie (Yesh Atid), said in her speech to the council: “Hypocrisy celebrates. While you were busy writing the report in the air-conditioned room, an Israeli was murdered in a shopping center by a “minor” whom you wish to protect. While you condemn arrests of potential terrorists, two more Israelis were slaughtered at their place of work. Some of the countries that sit in this courtroom take administrative detentions to ensure their security, but when it comes to Israel, our right to defend ourselves is on paper only. “
Lavie added: “The report is one-sided and distorted reality. He does not relate to the involvement of those minors in terror and violence, not in the content of incitement and hatred in the school textbooks, or in the payment of the families of terrorists by the Palestinian leadership. The European institutions’ obsession to repeatedly condemn the only stable democracy in the region does not promote peace, it distances it and encourages the Palestinians to continue to attack Israel in the international arena.
